Considered by many people as the crown jewel of Port wines, Vintage is the only port that matures in bottle. Produced from single-year grapes and bottled two to three years after harvest, it gradually evolves for 10 to 50 years in the bottle. The charm of Vintage Port lies in the fact that it is attractive in practically every phase of its bottle life. For the first five years it maintains the ruby intensity of the original colors, exuberant aromas of red and wild fruits and the taste of dark chocolate, all balanced by strong tannins, which combine perfectly with rich chocolate desserts. After ten years - and in addition to creating a medium deposit - it develops red garnet tones and reaches a delicious fullness of aromas and ripe fruit flavors. As the wine approaches maturity, the color evolves into the rich amber tones and its fruit acquires greater subtlety and complexity and its deposit becomes heavier.
This wine is a mysterious phenomenon, a magical wine produced in extremely limited quantities and only in a few years each decade. It is the expression of a terroir and confirms something that is for me a deeply held belief. The Nacional is great because of the grapes and where they come from, not because of anything particular that we do.
An excellent Vintage 2007 from Quinta do Vesúvio produced in the Douro region

Located in the remote eastern reaches of the Douro Valley, Vargellas is known for its elegant, scented wines, with their fine focused fruit and well integrated sinewy tannins.
The vintage stood out for the perfect weather conditions for the whole period. The young Ports show good structure with very fresh berry fruit aromas, resulting from the cooler than normal ripening period.
Taylor's Vinha Velha Vintage 2009 shows dense thickly textured tannins are coated with sumptuous fruit flavour giving the wine massive volume, weight and grip. But it is on the long, rich tannic finish that the wine displays its resilience and energy
Rozés is already known for the excellent Old Ports, Vintages or LBV and vintage 1977 does not escape the rule. A fabulous Vintage Port with more than 40 years.
